Grand Master Chess Tournament – Play Chess on Your Computer
Review by on
I never get tired of telling people that the computer, with the help of software, can be a good replacement for a lot of things. It can replace your traditional radio (listen to radio online), it can replace your TV (watch TV online or fit a TV card and watch TV), it can replace your child’s coloring book, and it can replace your traditional chess board as well.

Grand Master Chess Tournament, which is offered by Alawar Entertainment, is a piece of software that can do the last part, replace your traditional chess board I mean. Here is what you can expect to get from this game, from a functionality and entertainment point of view:

- Play in full screen or in a window.
- Use skins to customize the user interface. You can choose between Classic, Easy and Modern Skin.
- In-game help that teaches you the basics of playing chess.
- Championship game mode and Local game mode.
- Play against the computer or against a human player.
- Save and load games.
- Select 2D or 3D view.
- Choose between 6 difficulty modes.
- Option to Undo moves.

You can play Grand Master Chess Tournament if you download the game and install it on your Windows-powered PC. After you install the game, you can play it free of charge for a trial period of 1 hour.

Pay attention during the installation process. You will be asked to change your default search provider, you will be asked if you want to change your homepage, and you will be asked if you want to install Game Box (contains Alawar Entertainment’s catalog of games). If you don’t want to change your homepage or search engine, or if you don’t want to install the Game Box, make sure to opt out.

Pros
  • 6 difficulty levels
  • 2D and 3D view
  • Undo
  • Save and load games
  • Tutorial and hints
  • 4 game modes
  • Play free of charge for an hour

Cons
  • Offers to set Ask as your default homepage
  • Offers to set Ask as your default search provider
  • Cannot select the directory where the game will be installed
  • Creates an Alawar Games shortcut on your desktop without asking; the shortcut is not removed when you uninstall the game.
